Mary,
The Safe School Initiative was understood, referenced and quoted correctly in this article. There is a link to the report at the end of the article. If in doubt, all one needs to do is read the report and know for oneself. As for the "brain waves" issue, the principle "corellation does not prove causation" applies. Thank you for reading and for your input.

It's seems you've done a fair amount of research, so I'm sure you know that the Safe School Initiative is NOT based on mass shootings such as Columbine and VTech- but in ALL school shootings. This includes inner city and domestic violence brought into schools. So of course, there is no profile- the area of study is too broad.
Read "The Classroom Avenger" by Dr. James McGee.
Go to Lt. Col Grossman's website, killology.com, to see the brain wave studies of students who play video games vs/ those who don't.
Get that information and then write an educated review.

It's not the game that makes the kid violent or aggressive. And if any of the game-kids go bad it's their parent's fault. If they had raised their kid properly, there would be no anger fueled by violent video games. If a kid is taught how to distinguish what is right from wrong while it's little there wouldn't be any issues like that.I personally play many scary, horror games with lot's of violence, blood and gore. But it's all fiction, none of it is real.My point is if a kid is messed up violent games can only make it worse, but for a normal kid there shouldn't be a problem.Think about it - how many of the gamers playing violent games become violent?

I agree with Janaris. Although, I believe that violent video games can be the reason behind many violent acts. Children often imitate what they see. It's how they learn. If a child often plays violent video games, the child learns that violence is rewarding (in some respects) and that can be harmful to the child's psyche. It's not that video games are bad for older teenagers and adults, but they're not suitable for children.

Most of the shortcomings come from experimental studies that are specifically designed to see the effects of violent video games on people's aggression. Experimental studies are naturally artificial, but allows researchers to control factors that could potentially affect results. Say from aggressive personality to room temperature.

In my opinion, I believe there's an ethical reason why there are studies on older teenagers or college youths because if you're doing an experiment, exposing a child to a violent video game could be potentially harmful and I don't think many parents would consent their child to such experiment.

Much like Olson And Kutner's study, they too have some shortcomings, in that their study does not allow conclusions about causation, but relationships with unknown directions. (i.e. video games is causing that or aggression is causing this or both factors are influenced by a third factor).

So it is best to rely on diverse types of studies (e.g. experiments, surveys, long-term studies) to get a clear picture of what video games serves in society.
