Myth 9: Reading and writing cause nearsightedness.

ImageThe number of children worldwide who are Nearsighted (Myopic) is growing. For years it has been believed that too much “near work”, such as reading and writing, was the cause. A recent study shows that to be untrue. The key ingredient to preventing Myopia is spending time outside in the sunlight. Activity level doesn’t matter. Kids can become myopic by spending time playing indoor sports. The development of myopia is not linked to activity level, only to exposure to natural sunlight. The moral of the story? Get out there and show those kids the mountains and the trees or they’ll have to look at them through four eyes instead of two.   Read more…
